Potato = po-tay-(ˌ)tō , Potato = pə-ˈtah-(ˌ)tō

It is neither part of the Apple family nor any part of Pine family. 
Every where else in the world it is a Anana but not the English speaking country's. It's a Pineapple. I'm surprised the Banana is not called Squashapple.
